Anatomy
One of the three hamstrings, superficial and medial in the posterior thigh. Named for its long slender tendon that curves around the medial femoral condyle to insert on the medial tibia as part of the pes anserinus.
Origin & insertion
Origin: ischial tuberosity. Insertion: upper medial tibial shaft as part of the pes anserinus.
Action
Knee flexion and medial rotation; hip extension.
Innervation
Tibial nerve — anterior division of the sciatic nerve
Clinical notes
Among the most commonly used tendons as a graft in ACL reconstruction, usually harvested together with gracilis as a doubled strip.
