Anatomy

A deep paired vena comitans ascending alongside the anterior tibial artery in the anterior compartment of the leg, draining the dorsum of the foot and anterior leg, piercing the interosseous membrane to empty into the popliteal vein.

Clinical notes

Vulnerable to compression during acute anterior compartment syndrome of the leg; deep venous thrombosis (DVT) here can propagate into the popliteal and femoral venous axis, risking pulmonary embolism.
