Anatomy
An L-shaped bone deep in the face forming the posterior part of the hard palate, part of the medial orbital wall and the nasal floor; its greater palatine foramen transmits the greater palatine nerve and vessels.
Clinical notes
The greater palatine nerve block at the foramen anaesthetises the hard palate and posterior gums in dental work; Le Fort I fractures separate the palate horizontally from the rest of the face.
