Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
A boat-shaped tarsal on the medial side of the medial arch: it receives the talar head behind and distributes the load over the three cuneiforms in front — a key link of the medial longitudinal arch, whose true keystone is the head of the talus. This is the right member of the pair.
Clinical notes
An accessory navicular is common and hurts inside the arch when inflamed; its stress fracture in runners is often missed and ends in painful nonunion.
