Anatomy

The medial forearm bone on the little-finger side. Its trochlear notch hinges on the humerus, making the elbow a pure hinge for flexion/extension, and it is the pivot around which the radial head rotates.

Clinical notes

A fracture of the ulnar shaft combined with dislocation of the radial head is a Monteggia fracture — every ulnar fracture warrants checking the radial head.
