Trapezoid (right) (Os trapezoideum)
Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
The smallest and most rigid of the distal carpal row, wedging between the second metacarpal and the trapezium as the keystone of the carpometacarpal arch that locks the index base. This is the right member of the pair.
Clinical notes
Its fracture is very rare and easily missed; persistent index-base pain after direct trauma justifies CT, since neglect leaves a false joint that stiffens grip.
