Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
The mesoappendix is a small triangular peritoneal fold connecting the vermiform appendix to the lower part of the mesentery of the ileum. Transmitting the appendicular artery (a branch of the ileocolic artery) within its free border, it anchors the appendix while allowing positional mobility.
Clinical notes
Identification and secure vascular clipping of the appendicular artery within the mesoappendix is the fundamental initial step in laparoscopic and open appendectomy.
