Layer: Bones

Anatomy

The intervertebral disk of the seventh cervical vertebra (C7–T1) forms the structural transition between the mobile cervical lordosis and the rigid thoracic kyphosis. Interposed between the vertebra prominens (C7) and the first thoracic vertebra (T1), it absorbs high transitional shear and bending stresses.

Clinical notes

Herniation at C7–T1 compresses the C8 nerve root, presenting with hand intrinsic muscle weakness (weak finger abduction and adduction) and sensory deficits along the medial forearm and little finger.
