Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
The check ligament of the left lateral rectus is a strong triangular expansion of the fascial sheath of the lateral rectus muscle, inserting into the orbital tubercle of the zygomatic bone. It checks excessive abduction of the eyeball and helps anchor the suspensory ligament of Lockwood.
Clinical notes
Prevents posterior retraction of the globe during lateral rectus contraction; must be carefully released during large strabismus muscle recessions.
